About Proteus
The point of Proteus is the ongoing, never-ending, and necessarily ill-fated pursuit of elusive truths in the realms of politics, literature & art, and sport.
Political systems, and the institutional leviathans that inhabit them, are a central focus—not least because they are so poorly understood amid partisan braying on the one hand and the mainstream media’s fleeting and sensationalist reporting on the other.
Literature & art are also a focus. If history teaches philosophy through the study of examples, great literature & art teach philosophy and humanist thinking through the creation of beauty within a moral construct. Our age, however, has rendered literature a cultural sideshow while simultaneously politicizing art in extremis.
Sport will also feature, not least because games remain a true meritocracy of talent on the one hand, and an increasingly commercialized and politicized arena of modern society on the other.
Exploring these themes, Proteus seeks clarity through commentary, judgment, and serialized original fiction.
